How Coaching Works
Frequently associated with positive psychology, modern empowerment coaching borrows its principal technique from the ancient Greek philosophers. It takes the Socratic Method – intuitive questioning based on deep listening, which occurs during the actual session between you and your coach – to an even higher level. Fresh ideas, insights, even epiphanies frequently come from this open, honest, free but focused exchange. Then, between sessions, you continue the work by doing mutually agreed-upon exercises and/or assignments. With your coach's support, it is always you who make the decisions, design the program, take the action, assume the responsibility, and get the credit for creating any and all changes and successes that result.
Individual Coaching:
Here's how I typically work with individuals:
You (the client) and I (the coach) agree to talk either by phone, in person, or some combination thereof, approximately 45 minutes per week give or take, three times per month. Additional phone and e-mail support is also available.
During our sessions, we talk about anything you care to work on. This might entail question/answer, brainstorming, interesting exercises, designing a plan of action ... we never know where our sessions will take us. That depends on you.
Based on the work, ideas and discoveries of our session, together we agree upon things for you to examine, explore, and/or do during the upcoming week - journaling, setting intentions and/or goals, taking action(s), researching, soul-searching, meditating, self-care - based solely upon your desire and ability to accomplish them.
I usually e-mail a detailed recap of our session, including the topics of our discussion, insights, assignments, intentions, and agenda.
In order to give the coaching process time to take root and to become effective, it is recommended that you agree to sign on for a 3-month period. After 3 months, you decide if you’d like to continue our sessions. You may find that you no longer need my support to keep the ball rolling and elect to end our sessions. Or, you may want to continue working with me on a less frequent, or a month-by-month basis. It's your choice.
For people with budget and/or time concerns, other arrangements - such as single, less frequent, or shorter-term sessions - are certainly possible. Together we can design a coaching schedule that works for you. Better some coaching than none at all!
Group Coaching Circles:
I invite clients to join together in a group setting to discuss personal and professional challenges. A fun, affordable way to acquaint yourself with power of coaching. Benefit from the experience and guidance of a certified professional coach, and enjoy the support and different perspectives of a small group dynamic. Put together your own circle, or attend an open group.
